How to care for vintage (non-fine)

Jewellery can last forever if taken good care of. Luckily, there are several things you can do yourself to care for your jewellery. It all depends on its material properties, as jewellery shouldn’t be cleaned and polished the same way – whether it is solid gold, plated gold, silver, diamonds, gemstones or pearls, each type should be cared for differently. We have collected our best tips and tricks for at home cleaning and polishing of your jewellery.

With vintage (non-fine), you should

1)    Create a mixture
Mix one cup of water with one drop of baby shampoo. Stir the mixture together.

2)    Use a soft toothbrush or Q-tip
Dip a soft toothbrush or Q-tip in the baby shampoo mixture and gently scrub the surface of the piece of jewellery. Make sure to clean every spot.

3)    Rinse in cold water
After scrubbing the piece, rinse the piece of jewellery in cold water. Do not use warm water. Make sure the mixture is rinsed off.

4)    Dry it
Dry the piece of jewellery with a towel or microfiber cloth.

5)    If still wet
If the piece is not completely dry after using a towel or microfiber cloth, use a hairdryer to make sure it is. Make sure to use the cool setting.

6)    Store properly
To extend the longevity of the piece, store each piece of costume jewellery in its own zipper plastic bag and make sure all oxygen is removed from the bag, or use a velvet-lined jewellery box.
