JEWELLERY STORIES

Name: Andreas Bach

Occupation: Photographer

What jewellery did you wear in the portrait? Diamond and white gold earring by Repossi, diamond stud by Métier by tomfoolery, silver hoop, diamond and gold ring by Elhanati and a sterling silver ring.

What is your own favourite piece of jewellery, and why? My favorite piece of jewellery is not something that I wear anymore, but it still holds a lot of meaning to me. It is the first earring that I made myself and it is a mix of an old metal ring I had laying around and a really pretty pearl I found in a small store in Copenhagen many years ago. It is not so much about how the earring looks, how expensive it was or the history of it, but simply the feeling that it gave me. You could say, it gave me power. I had to own it, and I felt in control when wearing it. It was about so much more than just “bling”.

Can you describe a cherished memory connected to jewellery? Jewellery was never really a "thing" in my family, so I have never received jewellery as gifts. So for me, a great memory was to gift my best friend a gold necklace for his birthday. Knowing that he will have this piece from me forever makes me very happy.

What does jewellery mean to you? It is a symbol of something that lasts. I wear the same jewellery everyday and I never really change it. Occasionally, I will switch out a piece or add one, because I suddenly become aware of it or when I buy something new. But I feel like the pieces that I wear, become part of me. I don't even think about them - not until the day when I misplace a piece and panic.

How do you use jewellery – do you have a daily uniform, do you wear special pieces for parties, is it embellishment, a second skin, or? For me, my jewellery is a great way to spice up any outfit. I work a lot, lifting heavy things and running around in a lot of different environments when I'm on a set. I have to choose my outfits depending on the job, so I'm often dressed very simple when working. The jewellery will always stay the same, so that part of me will always be visible, whether I wear a plain T-shirt and jeans or a suit.
