Name: Annika Zobel Agerled

Occupation: Fashion Director at Costume

What jewellery did you wear in the portrait? Silver ankle cuffs from Marlene Juhl Jørgensen, Rolex watch, necklace from Elhanati, Chanel earrings, bracelets from a market in India.

What is your own favourite piece of jewellery, and why? I have a lot of heirlooms and they hold great sentimental value to me. My favourite piece of jewellery is a medallion which was gifted to me by my grandfather. He had our names engraved in it and it is very special to me. And then I particularly love emeralds and malachites. Very different gemstones, but both green minerals. I love green. Especially in antique Art Deco jewellery.

Can you describe a cherished memory connected to jewellery? Jewellery says something about the person who wears it, it tells stories, and jewellery has always held great meaning to me. I am incredibly fascinated with jewellery and gemstones. Especially unique jewels that have some age. Heirlooms are priceless. A piece of jewellery often carries a story and I enjoy looking at them and remembering a time or moment in my life. The greatest gift is receiving a piece that has meant something to someone you love and then be given the responsibility to pass it on to someone dear to you.

What does jewellery mean to you? The medallion that I mentioned before was gifted to me shortly before my grandfather passed away. My grandmother had gifted it to my grandfather, with their names engraved: Annika & Peter. My grandmother died in a car crash when she was young, which is why I am named after her, Annika. It made sense that the medallion was passed down to me.

How do you use jewellery – do you have a daily uniform, do you wear special pieces for parties, is it embellishment, a second skin, or? I like bling. I enjoy wearing big and bold jewellery with more casual clothes. Denim and diamonds. That's a favourite combination.
