Choice of karats when replating jewellery

When re-plating a piece of jewellery, the type of gold is important to consider to understand what colour it will have.

Yellow gold colour
The higher the karat of the gold, the purer it is, and the more vibrant the yellow colour will be.

14 karat
A cool, subdued yellow hue.

18 karat
A buttery yellow hue, considered the most classic gold.

22 karat
A beeswax-yellow hue.

24 karat
A deep sunset yellow hue.

Our recommendation
If you’re in doubt about what karat to go for, we generally recommend 18 karat gold for most re-platings, as its colour will generally be what most people know as a classic gold, and it will be a good match with most other jewellery pieces.

We also offer white gold rhodium plating, along with rose gold plating.
