Laura Powers grew up on the coast of Maine and now works in Brooklyn, where she makes every BRUCE piece herself. She taught herself goldsmithing and spent years at the bench at Catbird before starting her own line there in 2017. Her pieces look simple at first: solid gold bands, small stones, clean shapes. The interest is in the details, like a slightly unusual profile, or a setting you wouldn’t expect. She uses recycled gold and reclaimed diamonds, and her coloured stones are traceable back to the mine. That often means Montana sapphires or opals. It’s jewellery made to be worn every day for a very long time.
