Dora Silagyi runs a one-woman studio in Pécs, in southern Hungary, where she designs and makes everything herself. The wave is her signature, but it isn’t a loose, organic one. Her curves are drawn with precision and repeated at regular intervals, so a ring or pair of earrings reads more like a piece of modern architecture than something taken from nature. The gold is polished to a mirror finish, which sharpens the lines and makes the shapes look almost engineered. The pieces still sit comfortably on the body, following the curve of a finger or ear. She sets them with salt and pepper diamonds, cognac diamonds and sapphires, usually kept small so the structure stays the focus. Much of her work is bespoke, especially engagement and wedding rings.
